शिव का एक भीषण शूलास्त्र जिसे अर्जुन ने तपस्या करके प्राप्त किया था। महाभारतका युद्ध हुआ, उसमें भगवान्‌ शंकरका दिया हुआ पाशुपतास्त्र अर्जुनके पास था, भगवान्‌ शंकरने कह दिया कि तुम्हें चलाना नहीं पड़ेगा । यह तुम्हारे पास पड़ा-पड़ा विजय कर देगा, चलानेकी जरूरत नहीं, चला दोगे तो संसारमें प्रलय हो जायगा । इसलिये चलाना नहीं ।

इस पाशुपत स्तोत्र का मात्र एक बार जप करने पर ही मनुष्य समस्त विघ्नों का नाश कर सकता है । सौ बार जप करने पर समस्त उत्पातो को नष्ट कर सकता है तथा युद्ध आदि में विजय प्राप्त कर सकता है । इस मंत्र का घी और गुग्गल से हवं करने से मनुष्य असाध्य कार्यो को पूर्ण कर सकता है । इस पाशुपातास्त्र मंत्र के पाठ मात्र से समस्त क्लेशो की शांति हो जाती है ।

यह अत्यन्त प्रभावशाली व शीघ्र फलदायी प्रयोग है। यदि मनुष्य इस स्तोत्र का पाठ गुरू के निर्देशानुसार संपादित करे तो अवश्य फायदा मिलेगा। शनिदेव शिव भक्त भी हैं और शिव के शिष्य भी हैं। शनि के गुरु शिव होने के कारण इस अमोघ प्रयोग का प्रभाव और अधिक बढ़ जाता है। यदि किसी साधारण व्यक्ति के भी गुरु की कोई आवभगत करें तो वह कितना प्रसन्न होता है। फिर शनिदेव अपने गुरु की उपासना से क्यों नहीं प्रसन्न होंगे। इस स्तोत्र के पाठ से भगवान शिव शीघ्र प्रसन्न होते हैं और शिव की प्रसन्नता से शनिदेव खुश होकर संबंधित व्यक्ति को अनुकूल फल प्रदान करते हैं। साथ ही एक विशेषता यह भी परिलक्षित होती है कि संबंधित व्यक्ति में ऐसी क्षमता आ जाती है कि वह शनिदेव के द्वारा प्राप्त दण्ड भी बड़ी सरलता से स्वीकार कर लेता है। साथ ही वह अपने जीवन में ऐसा कोई अशुभ कर्म भी नहीं करता जिससे उस पर शनिदेव भविष्य में भी नाराज हों।

यह किसी भी कार्य के लिए अमोघ राम बाण है। अन्य सारी बाधाओं को दूर करने के साथ ही युवक-युवतियों के लिए यह अकाटय प्रयोग माना ही नहीं जाता अपितु इसका अनेक अनुभूत प्रयोग किया जा चुका है। जिस वर या कन्या के विवाह में विलंब होता है, यदि इस पाशुपत-स्तोत्र का प्रयोग करें तो निश्चित रूप से शीघ्र ही उन्हें दाम्पत्य सुख का लाभ मिलता है। केवल इतना ही नहीं, अन्य सांसारिक कष्टों को दूर करने के लिए भी पाठ या जप, हवन, तर्पण, मार्जन आदि करने से अभीष्ट फल की प्राप्ति होती है।

Story about Pashupatastra

In Mahabharata, While Pandavas were spending their time in the forest, Ashwatthama (the son of Guru Dhrona) visited Dwaraka and met Lord Sri Krishna and urged him to offer his Sudarshana Chakra and Krishna told him to take it. Ashwatthama in excitement tried to lift the Sudarshana Chakra with his left hand but failed.He then tried with his right hand, failed again. Though using all his Knowledge of Atharwana Veda(He is considered as the creator of the 4th veda called “The Atharwana Veda”), he was not able to move even a bit. By seeing the act of Ashwatthama, Lord Krishna asked, “O Ashwatthama” Even Arjuna, my dearest friend on earth, never asked me the Chakra. Tell me one thing, whom were you planning to fight using this weapon?” Drona’s son replied, “After offering my worship to you, O Krishna, it was my intention to fight you. If I had attained your Chakra, I will be able to Kill you”. Lord Krishna was pleased with his courageous act and Granted him the knowledge of Narayanastra which is the most powerful fighting weapon of Lord Vishnu.

Ashwatthama was not convinced with the Narayanastra and wanted a weapon which is most powerful and destructive in nature and be able to kill the pandava brothers. With the support of his power in Atharwana veda, he created a weapon called Pashupatastra with Lord Shiva as the deity of this weapon. This weapon should not be used against lesser enemy and it can be invoked only, if the enemy is Immortal in nature. Pashupatastra will kill the enemy only if the person who invokes it should follow dharma.Arjuna obtained this weapon from Lord Shiva and used it only once during Mahabharata against Jayadratha, The King of Sindhu Kingdom.Though Ashwatthama is the creator of this weapon he never used it in the Kurukshetra War because of its destructive nature and he is not on the Dharma side. In all forms Pashupatastra is considered as the most powerful and destructive weapon, since it will not show any mercy on any person.
